Our church boasts a very active ECW (Episcopal Church Women) who call themselves the Women of St. Mary's (WOSM). They are a social, spiritual and fundraising group who meet on a monthly basis for business and social occasions. The highlights are our Bunco nights and Christmas Party. Their main fundraiser has been a Church Bazaar which includes a Boutique, Rummage Sale, Soup and Baked Goods sale as well as an opportunity drawing for a lovely homemade quilt. This activity provides the women with fellowship as well as outreach to the Community. The monies raised then go to support various charities in our own church, diocese, nation and abroad.
We currently have about 23 women who come together for different functions as time permits. We also help by delivering meals to those in times of need. All women older than age 18 years are automatically members of this worthwhile organization. We invite everyone to join in and grow in Grace!

At that time we will have sign ups, so that I will know what days of the week people will be there to help. this will be the week of Oct. 8th through the 12th.
There may also be items that still need to be priced, so plan to stay a little longer to help with this..
I sincerely thank everyone who has helped so far. with us all working together, we will make our 24th year a big success!
Also, be on the lookout for the quilt tickets which will be in envelopes with each families name on them in the Narthex. this is something new this year, so please see Jill Casalegno with questions and for extra tickets. We also have some photos if you need them. The quilt is just beautiful and made by our dear Betty Mccaffrey.
Kitchen News: As always we will be selling our homemade soups and baked goods, so be thinking about what you can contribute. We will have a sign up sheet out by the end of September.
In closing, I am trying to keep track of some of the more valuable items and hope to publish a list in a few weeks. That way if there is something on it that you or a friend are interested in we can earmark it for you!
And finally tell everyone that you can about our Bazaar on OCTOBER 13th!
In The Beginning
There Was a Monthly Parking Lot Sale
The Women Of St. Mary's Proud Fundraising
History & Tradition
What is now referred to as the Women of St. Mary's (WOSM) Annual Fall Bazaar, began in 1995, as a small monthly church parking lot sale for members of the congregation. The first co-chairpersons were Jim and Betty McCaffrey, who came to Ramona and St. Mary's from the Northern California city of Redding.
As had been the practice at their previous parish, Jim and Betty frequented local estate sales and flea markets, returning with "treasures" for the monthly church parking lot sale. Additionally, Jim and his truck were ALWAYS "on call" to pick up contributions from church members for the next sale. Each month's income, generated from this fundraising venture was from $200 to $400.....excellent return!
With the passage of time, it became increasingly more difficult to find enough St. Mary's church members to assist with this monthly venture, so Michael and Gail Voorhes volunteered to coordinate the parking lot sale, which ultimately evolved into our major annual Women of St. Mary's fundraising event.
In 2004, the decision was made to include a new department, "The Boutique" (located in the church worship area), offering new, gently used and collectible items.
From the Gourmet Foods Department, found on the front patio, customers will discover a delicious variety of hot homemade soups and chili (sold by the bowl or jar), quiches, casseroles, baked goods, jams, jellies, pickles and other preserves.
In the parking lot area are the following Departments: Clothing (women, men, children, infants), Books, Electronics, Furniture, Linens, Miscellaneous, Toys.
Hot dogs are grilled and sold (with all the trimmings), by church members, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Tickets for the Annual Quilt Opportunity Drawing are on sale before and during the bazaar, the winning ticket to be drawn in early afternoon.
For the past 4 years, the WOSM have been in "partnership" with The Community United Methodist Church of Julian, which holds its Annual Two Day Rummage Sale each September. Members of St. Mary's are invited to arrive with trucks and trailers, toward the close of the event, and "load up" with their "left overs" to add to our WOSM Bazaar inventory.....truly a blessing!
So, Thanks Be To God, for the many St. Mary's members helping hands, including youth and men, who, in community with our women, make this annual event a rewarding experience.
Note: In accordance with St. Mary's governance, for the past 6 years, the total amount of net proceeds from the WOSM Annual Bazaar is used solely in support of our mission church operations.
